About
This webapp introduces a curated sustainability reading pack for architects in practice. It is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes. It outlines the eight RIBA Sustainable Outcomes, stated targets and connects them to relevant RIBA Work Stages and UN SDGs.
The page also summarises key reference documents and a selection of respective regulatory drivers. This aims to better inform day-to-day practice and eventually incorporate fully into the business model and client offering.
The RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide was written by Gary Clark and published by RIBA Publishing in 2019.
The Eight RIBA Sustainable Outcomes
These eight topics constitute the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Framework, which provides a set of measurable, outcome-based sustainability objectives intended to guide architectural design and project delivery across all RIBA Work Stages. They are derived directly from the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide (2019).
● Net Zero Operational Carbon
● Net Zero Embodied Carbon
● Sustainable Water Cycle
● Sustainable Land Use & Ecology
● Good Health & Wellbeing
● Sustainable Communities & Social Value
● Sustainable Connectivity & Transport
● Sustainable Life Cycle Costing & Procurement
The content in that guide is informed by UK legislation, international climate policy, established industry practice, and recognised sustainability frameworks, together forming a consolidated approach to embedding environmental and social performance into architectural design.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The UN SDGs are a set of 17 global objectives adopted by UN Member States in 2015, intended to address environmental, social, and economic challenges by 2030.
They provide a universal framework for sustainable development across all sectors, including the built environment.
